A car stand, commonly known as a jack stand, is a rigid mechanical support designed to hold the weight of a vehicle securely after it has been lifted into the air. It is never safe to work under a vehicle supported only by a hydraulic jack, making these stands the primary line of safety in any automotive workshop. They feature a wide, flanged pyramid base to distribute weight evenly and prevent tipping on concrete garage floors. The vehicle's frame rests on a curved cast-iron or steel saddle attached to a central post, which adjusting mechanisms can raise or lower to match the required working height.
